Chef Donald

Chef Donald Moletsane, an aspiring chef who is taking the chef career & hospitality industry to a whole new level in Lesotho. He is a highly ambitious chef who loves his career. Chef Donald is a mosotho from Khubetsoana in Maseru but grew up in Ladybrand. He went to Maseru L.E.C. Primary School, Mohalalitoe and then went to Marquard High School. After high school, he attended Olive Chef School in Bloemfontein where he studied for two years, and achieved his Skill Development Certificate and a Certificate in Professional Chef. He furthered his studies at HTA (Hotel School in Pretoria), studying a four year course and achieved an International Diploma.

In 2002, he joined the South African Chefs Association (SACA) and became one of the top Chefs in 2003 in the Free State Province. Chef Donald was the only black student at Olive Chef School out of a class of 29. Studying with different racial people from him was challenging. His dream was to become an Executive Chef at Lesotho Sun Hotel during his studying, (which he achieved as Executive Sous Chef at Maseru/Lesotho Sun Hotel), though he feared that they only hired foreign or international Chefs. He also worked at Black Mountain Hotel (Naledi Sun) in Thaba Nchu as Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Manager.

This is only a few of his achievements. He definitely encourages young people to follow the career of becoming a Chef as it is both entertaining & challenging. Dona@Balos Chef School shall be operational from February 2013, and will soon be registered with the South African Chefs Association, as the Director shall be hands on with this project. The intention is to work with all unemployed chefs and train upcoming chefs. It is also to empower cooks and caterers with professional skills. Chef Donald has worked for the American Embassy as Ambassador Michelle Bond’s personal Chef and now plans on taking this company to a higher level and the country up on the map.
